Unboxing

Design

Focusing on the HT08 flashlight, it looks compact in non-zooming state but has a big head with a diameter of 45mm. The HT08 is equipped with the Cree XHPL LED and uses Fresnel lens and glass lens with high light transmission. Made of aluminum alloy body with HAIII anodized finish, it’s quite solid. Near the light head where the LED is located, there are lots of fins that are designed to dissipate heat. The zoom mechanism of the HT08 can smoothly work by screwing/twisting the head. The knurling is only designed on a short section of the tube. But it works well to offer good grip experience.

The tail of the light is designed with some grooves and two hole for attaching the lanyard. Uncrewing the tail cap, you can find where the battery is located. The HT08 holds one button top and flat top 18650 batteries but not included. The battery tube thread is not anodised and thus the light cannot be mechanically locked out by turning the tail cap. The HaikeLite HT08 has only a tail switch. For user interface, we will explain in the “Mode Operation” section.

Performance

The HaikeLite HT08 uses a Fresnel lens and glass lens, instead of aspheric lens or TIR lens. Equipped with a genuine 5000k neutral white Cree XHPL LED, it’s boasted that it can deliver up to 850 lumens output but actually it’s not able to reach. In addition, this light has no automatic step down and will be over-heat fairly quickly.
HaikeLite HT08 beam
The HT08 is a flashlight has a throw and flood beam. At the flood end, the beam is fairly even in brightness with a little bit of yellow tint shift at the corona and a very wide angle. While at the throw end, it’s a very small hotspot, but also with ring artefact from the Fresnel lens. Between throw and flood, the beam is always fairly even, and the ring artefact varies at different parts if the zoom.

Mode Operation

As mentioned above, the HaikeLite HT08 uses a tail switch for operation via half and full clicks. There are five mode groups for options:

  • Group 1: Single mode
  • Group 2: Low / High
  • Group 3: Low / Medium / High
  • Group 4: High / Strobe / SOS
  • Group 5: Moonlight / Low / Medium /High / SOS

To enter the programming mode, you need to make five half-clicks. The mode is then selected by clicking the light off after the number of flashes denoting the mode group. To toggle memory on / off, 8 half-clicks are required.

By twising the head to zoom the light, you are able to adjust the brightness and size of the lighting. But it’s a bit difficult to change from flood to throw because it’s required a lot of screwing with two hands.
